We’ve all heard of bootleg movie copies, but seeing a blockbuster film running on a Nintendo DS? That’s definitely next-level and not something you see every day. While we don’t condone piracy, it’s fascinating to witness someone repurpose the DS—known for its touchscreen games—into a mini movie player.
X user @pablothinghouse recently shared a video of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 playing on their Nintendo DS. Although the quality is far from cinema standards (definitely no Dolby surround sound here), the fact that the DS can handle this without overheating is pretty impressive. They even shared the process they used to make it work, sparking curiosity among fans who want to try something similar with emulators.
The movie itself has been a smash hit, earning over $200 million since its December 2024 release, and it’s already exceeding expectations. While watching it on a DS is an intriguing feat, heading to the cinema is definitely the way to go to fully enjoy the action-packed adventure of Sonic and Shadow. That said, if Sega ever decided to release a retro UMD version for the PSP, that would be a collector’s dream—though highly unlikely.
